After over two years of construction and preparation, Hengyi Industries Sdn. Bhd. will finally be launching their Pulau Muara Besar (PMB) project for its commercial operation in the third quarter of this year.
The announcement was made by the company’s CEO, Chen Lian Cai, during the graduation ceremony of students under the Hengyi Industries’ joint Chemical and Process Engineering Scholarship Programme on Wednesday, 10th July, 2019.
Speaking at the ceremony, the CEO stated in his opening remarks that the Hengyi-Brunei PMB project, whose construction launched in March 2017, is “one of the largest foreign direct investment (FDI) projects in the sultanate … [which] will greatly contribute to the development of the nation’s downstream oil and gas industry as well as produce much needed talents for the nation’s petrochemical industry”.
With the extended agreement of the scholarship programme with Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and Zhejiang University, China, it is also believed that “Hengyi will be able to further strengthen its commitment towards the country’s Bruneianisation drive and contribute to Brunei Vision 2035”.
Also present to witness the event were Her Excellency Yu Hong (Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam) and the Vice-President of Zhejiang University, Professor Luo Waidong; who claimed that the launching of the first phase of the Hengyi-Brunei petrochemical project - which was expected to be in a few days time - serves to mark “a new period of cooperation between Zhejiang Hengyi Group Co Ltd, Zhejiang University and UBD”.
Attending as the Guest of Honour was the Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education, Dr. Haji Azman bin Ahmad. A total of 11 students who were from the scholarship programme’s fifth batch received their certificates at the graduation ceremony, which was conducted at the Indera Kayangan Ballroom, Empire Hotel & Country Club.
